THE INSTITUTE ON WOMEN, GENDER, & PUBLIC POLICY

Our mission:

To improve the status of the 5.8 million women and girls living in Ohio by deepening our understanding of the conditions that affect their livesand serving as a data-rich resource for individuals and organizations promoting positive change.

To achieve its mission, the Institute on Women, Gender, and Public Policy:

  • catalogues current, research-based information on the status of women and girls in Ohio that expands both the breadth and depth of our understanding and encourages the use of that data in the development of effective community- and public policy-based responses to the needs of women and girls in our state
  • collaborates with academic and community-based researchers throughout the state to facilitate innovative, need-based research on women and girls
  • disseminates research findings to key decision makers in both the public and private arenas
  • analyzes the impact of community and public-policy actions on women and girls in Ohio.

This institute will fill a void that exists in Ohio for a research-based organization with the capacity to collect, analyze, and disseminate data that can foster open dialogue and creative problem-solving around the multifaceted issues we face in Ohio and across the United States. As a top-ranking public land grant research university, The Ohio State University is well positioned to take leadership in identifying, enabling, and implementing the sorts of innovative research strategies that will help our communities meet these challenges with dynamic results.

Help us beta-test our wiki!

We're developing a wiki to provide a repository for up-to-date information on women and girls in Ohio. We also hope to foster discussions regarding the data and potential strategies for change. Tell us what you think - what's helpful? What would make it more effective? How can we make a better tool for you?

We'll be adding content and tweaking the structure, so check back often.

Many thanks!
